Florissant Veteran’s Day Parade and Celebration 2024

This event has ended

Join us for the 2024 Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 10th, starting at 1:00 p.m. The parade will begin at Bangert Park, proceed north on Florissant Road, then turn left onto St. Francois, and conclude at VFW Post 4105. Following the parade, we’ll celebrate with a festival atmosphere featuring food, music, and an awards ceremony.

The St. Louis Veterans Coalition will honor several veterans from the St. Louis area with special awards, and the community will recognize our 2024 Florissant Veteran of the Year, Ron Smith. This year’s emcee will be Marc Cox from 97.1 Talk Radio, and we’ll also welcome a keynote guest speaker to the ceremony.

Honoring Ron Smith, Florissant’s 2024 Veteran of the Year

Ron Smith was born in St. Louis, MO, and graduated from University City High School in 1984. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps that same year, receiving training at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. Ron served in Okinawa, Japan, for a year before returning to the U.S. and being stationed at Camp Pendleton for three years. During his service, he was also deployed to 29 Palms, California. After his active duty, Ron continued serving in the reserves for two years.

Upon returning to St. Louis, Ron became a police officer with the St. Louis City Police Department. He now resides in Florissant with his wife, Lisa, and works in the security department at Christian Hospital Northeast. He is also a student at St. Louis University, where he is pursuing a degree in cybersecurity. Ron volunteers with St. Ferdinand and St. Vincent de Paul and was honored to be appointed by Mayor Tim Lowery to serve on the Florissant Veterans Commission.

A Community Tradition

For the past 21 years, Florissant has proudly hosted this Veterans Day Parade, and we are grateful to the St. Louis Veterans Coalition for their dedication in organizing it each year. Mayor Tim Lowery, the City Council, and the St. Louis Veterans Coalition invite everyone to bring their families and honor the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.

Come celebrate and show your support for our veterans this Veterans Day. We look forward to seeing you there!
